Ministry of Presence
by Kate Warren, MCV

I came to FJAC as a Missionary Cenacle Volunteer on a 'sabbatical' from my regular career as a project manager in computer technologies.  I was responding to the call to do 'more' in my life even though I was already very active in my parish, young adult community, and family life in Phoenix, Arizona. Mid-way through my year commitment at FJAC, I am realizing that the 'More' is not what I am doing, but actually about letting God into my heart, mind, and soul.  By allowing God to live fully within myself, I am able to respond to God through each of the people I encounter.

As the MCV at FJAC my primary responsibility is a 'ministry of presence'. As people walk through the doors, I am available to greet them and really want to know how they are doing.  I have responsibilities for maintaining the house such as cooking, cleaning, and shopping.  I have excelled in brownie and cookie baking.  I am a part of the retreat teams, planning prayer services, giving talks, and participating in community events.  Being an MCV at FJAC has been an outstanding growth experience and opportunity to learn what it means to be a missionary in the providence of my daily life.
