Reflections from a Participant

SMI 2000 included 31 participants
from 11different states.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Summer Mission Institute. I didn’t hesitate to say yes, even thought I had no idea what I’d be doing there in Philadelphia. When I learned that the focus was mission, I even envisioned far off places.

After arriving at the Mother Boniface Center, I found out that missions and missionaries come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. The MSBT sisters showed me that mission can be as simple as writing a letter to those in need of prayer. Even at one unglamorous daily mission experience, I felt unfulfilled doing weeding in the blazing sun at the Siloam Center, knowing that I contributed to the comfort of the Aids clients it served. Although missions can take you anywhere, I found that they must begin in your heart out of your love for God.

The SMI group was phenomenal and very diverse! We came from all over, but our common thread was faith. The Spirit was among us as we laughed and formed new friendships in faith. I believe we all received a renewed love for God and a deeper sense of mission in our hearts!
